Widely known as “The Land of Fire and Ice”, Iceland is home to some of the largest glaciers in Europe, and some of the world's most active volcanoes. Iceland is also the land of light and darkness. Long summer days with near 24 hours of sunshine are offset by short winter days with only a few hours of daylight.

Iceland is the second largest island in Europe, following Great Britain, and the 18th largest island in the world. The island itself stretches across 103,000 km2 (40,000 square miles), and is about the same size as Hungary and Portugal, or Kentucky and Virginia.

On this tour we plan to take you to some of Iceland's most well known spots and some of its lesser known, but equally impressive locations as well. We plan on photographing waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, volcanic craters and with a bit of luck, The Northern Lights into all hours of the night.

With almost 80% of the country uninhabited, much of Iceland's terrain consists of plateaus, mountain peaks, and fertile lowlands. There are many long, deep fjords and glaciers, including Europe's largest, Vatnajökull. Get ready for an amazing 13 days of absolutely nothing but photography and adventure exploring this amazing country.

  • 1st September, 2020 - Iceland - Vik

Arrive into Iceland's International Airport, Keflavik ( KEF )  then make our way towards Vik where we will spend the next three nights exploring places like Skogafoss, the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, the wrecked DC3 plane and the areas iconic sea stacks.

  • 4th September, 2020 - Vik - Jökulsárlón

After a sunrise shoot near Vik and some breakfast, it is time to make our way to the famous Jökulsárlón Lagoon area. We have two options here of shooting either the lagoon or Diamond Beach, the famous iceberg littered beach which is just across the road.  We are staying close by this area so whatever we dont shoot today, we can come back and shoot at sunset or tomorrow morning.

  • 5th September, 2020 - Jökulsárloón - Höfn

We start making our way east towards the town of Höfn for 2 nights in this area. Vestrahorn is the famous mountain in this area but there is another place we want to show you that will blow your mind and is an ideal spot for northern lights if we are lucky. We can also jet back towards Diamond Beach if we feel we need to shoot that again.

  • 7th September, 2020 - Höfn - Myvatn

Today is a longer drive as we make our way towards Myvatn but not before stopping along the way to shoot the impressive waterfall, Hengifoss. A late afternoon arrival into Myvatn will see us check into our motel then possibly head out to Icelands most powerful waterfall, Detifoss. We will photograph the impressive Hverfjall Crater and the almighty Godafoss and Aldeyjarfoss waterfalls as we are here for three nights and will have ample time to shoot both sunset and sunrise at certain locations or even go back to shoot them with the Northern Lights if we are lucky.

  • 10th September, 2020 - Myvatn - Landmannalaugar

This morning we cut through the middle of Iceland and make our way towards The Highlands region of Landmannalaugar. We will stay just outside of Landmannlaugar for two nights and make the short drive to this stunning location early tomorrow morning. This afternoon though we are in for a treat as we are going to shoot the awesome Háifoss Waterfall. Háifoss is said to be the fourth largest waterfall in Iceland a location I can't wait to photograph. As mentioned before, tomorrow morning we see us venture into The Highlands and the otherworldy region of Landmannalaugar.

  • 12th September, 2020 - Landmannalaugar - Reykjavik

After a morning shoot hear here ( or another session at the amazing Háifoss ) its time to maek our way towards Iceland's capital city, Reykjavik. We will overnight here and have a least meal together before flying home tomorrow.

You may choose to not participate in these but we recommend that you do take part.

Early morning shoot times are entirely dependant on the sunrise times so schedules we set for departure will need to be adhered to strictly. It’s not fair to the group as a whole to have to wait for a late riser so we will leave exactly at the times we say.

Please bring clothing suited to early morning or evening shoots that may be a little chilly, sturdy foot wear, hat, sunscreen and camera of course…. Like any trip away from home please bring personal medication requirements. We usually meet the evening before the workshop to have drinks and/or dine together and get to know each other. Please consider this when planning your travel arrangements.
